Save on Energy — Expanded Energy Management Program (SEM / Energy Manager / EMIS)
IESO (Independent Electricity System Operator), Ontario · Save on Energy
What it pays
Energy manager: up to 50% of salary to $100,000 per facility per year; industrial EMIS: up to $50,000 (facilities up to 400,000 GJ/yr) or up to $250,000 (above 400,000 GJ/yr), in both cases up to 50% of eligible project costs
Deadline: none stated on the source page
Co-funds a dedicated energy manager's salary, provides Strategic Energy Management coaching/cohorts, and funds installation of Energy Management Information Systems (EMIS) — i.e., energy monitoring — at industrial facilities.
Who qualifies
Industrial facilities need roughly 20,000 GJ/yr minimum energy use for SEM and 50,000 GJ/yr for Energy Manager funding (commercial/institutional thresholds differ).
Summarized from the official page. This is not advice — the provider decides.
Status note, as recorded
Re-verified open 2026-08-25 — no waitlist, no stated application deadline. All industrial program activities funded by NRCan must be COMPLETED by March 31, 2027, so late applicants run out of runway before the money does. Industrial eligibility thresholds: SEM at least 20,000 GJ/yr (all fuels), Energy Manager at least 50,000 GJ/yr, with 12 consecutive months of energy data in the past 24. Replaced the legacy Energy Manager program. Strongest fit in the collection for submetering and monitoring projects.
Program details change. Always confirm with the provider before budgeting. If this page and the official page disagree, the official page is right — and we would like to know, at info@quantifyenv.com.
